Executive Director Update

March 31, 2020

In response to the Covid-19 global pandemic and by the Governor’s order, MN SNAP can no longer offer spay/neuter surgeries and core vaccinations for the pets of families in need, shelters and rescues. Our last two days of operations were March 22 and 23, and in 48 hours, we carefully hosted four clinics and served 168 patients!

While suspending lifesaving spay/neuter feels like a big step backward, we must take radical action to protect human beings and the pets who depend on us. MN SNAP’s goal during this difficult time is to do our best for our employees while ensuring that we can reopen when this pandemic subsides. MN SNAP employees, who are currently being paid in full, will be placed on unpaid furlough April 12 for up to 12 weeks. During this time, MN SNAP will cover 100 percent of our employees’ medical and dental insurance so that they can access care. As MN SNAP’s Executive Director, I must continue working, but I’ll take a pay cut equivalent to what I’d receive on unemployment. This plan, while thoughtful and conservative, is projected to leave MN SNAP with only $13,693 at the end of June. We’ll need our courageous, compassionate and highly trained staff to move our work forward after this crisis passes because families across Minnesota will need MN SNAP more than ever.

Thank you for your support, and please know how tremendously grateful I am to have you on our side. My heart is with you and your family.

Stay safe and healthy,

Anna Kucera
Executive Director
MN SNAP
